I caught a fast acting stomach flu bug that kept me going between bed and bathroom all night long. In between I slept like a feverish log, and even at daylight I was deadly tired and slept an uneasy sleep. My hosts, a sweet old Indian couple came knocking at my door at 10 am because they noticed I had not touched my breakfast. They were very concerned about my predicament, and 10 minutes later my landlord showed up with a cup of hot tea. Bless their soul.
The fever broke about 2 pm, and I laid down in my bed drenched in cold sweat. Finally at 4 pm I got up, walked to the store, and bought some yoghurt. Maybe I should have kept to a strict diet of liquids, because the disease continued its course for a second night, in a much more gentle form. Well, I have wasted a full day by now, and do not intend to waste anymore.
Today I will be starting my 3-day motorcycle tour of Kerala. First leg Fort Kochi to Pooppara, second leg Pooppara to Karukachal, and third leg Karukachal to the coast and from there north toward Kochi.
I am going to be following the mountain routes, and hope that the monsoon rains do not ruin my plans. It has been raining with gusto in the evenings, so let's hope for the best.
