Up at 2:30 am to take the shuttle at 4 am, to arrive at the
airport at 4:45 am, to board the plane at 6:15 am, to … wait! Wait? What do you
mean wait? Oh no, a heavy fog has settled over the airport and all flights have
been delayed. Fortunately the fog lifted after a couple of hours, and I made my
connection in Mexico City without any serious mishap.
I got to Cancún at 3:30 pm, rented a car, and by 5 pm I was
in the Xcaret Resort, ready to be spoiled by a life of luxury. It took me a bit
to find Faby and family, but I knew they had to be close to the beach. Lo and
behold there was little Ronnie fearlessly diving into the waves, and by his
side was his good buddie Kaleb.
The cast of characters include Faby, DJ, and Ronnie, who are
the organizers. Then we have Jamie and Luke, together with their 6-year old son
Jude and their 4-year old daughter Lennon. Jamie and Faby went to elementary
school together, and she used to come to our house every morning for breakfast,
after which we all walked to school. I had not seen Jamie in 30 years, but I
had no problem identifying this beautiful blonde as my little one. The third
member of the party are Christy and Jared, together with their 6-year old
daughter Marley and their 4-year old son Kaleb. Christy and Faby grew up
together as the Owl Creek kids (the only two of that particular generation),
and the families get together regularly in Easter and Thanksgiving, so by now
Kaleb and Ronnie are Dicke Freunden.
The kids played hard in the beach, and later in the pool,
until 7 pm, at which time they were all shivering with cold. Ronnie solved the
problem by inviting the whole gaggle to a hot shower party in our room, and for
15 minutes all shouted with glee, higelty pigelty enjoying the warm water.
